Braces Case Study: The fitting!

My braces are final going to be fitted. In a weird way I have been looking forward to this day for the past 2 weeks. I am very impatient and I want to start seeing results. I wasn’t worried about the fitting hurting, but more curious to see what it would look and feel like and if my speech would be affected.

The braces took about an hour to fit. Nga talked me through the process. The first step was to have my teeth thoroughly cleaned. Nga then fitted the brackets and the wire

The fitting was painless my mouth wasn’t clamped, cut or hurt in anyway but as you can imagine sitting in the dentist chair with your mouth open for an hour is tiresome. However no pain no gain. Nga advised me to take painkillers if my teeth began to ache, I was given some wax sticks which I was told to rub onto any brackets that rub against my lips to stop them from hurting or cutting me. The first night was fine, I had no aching just the discomfort of wearing the brace but I knew that I would soon get used to the brace and I wouldn’t really notice it. However by the following afternoon my 2 front teeth had started to ache, the pain wasn’t terrible but more of a dull ache.

The food aspect is the hardest so far, I haven’t eaten anything other than soup and a mashed banana, I feel like I am preparing lunch for a 9 month old baby. I was advised to eat soft food for the next few days and I’m going to attempt Shepherd’s Pie tonight and hope it doesn’t involve any chewing. I have been drinking tea but I did decline my regular morning filter coffee at work as I am paranoid about the staining, but this can only be a good thing, my water consumption has definitely increased.
