This is the treatment of periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease. Gum disease is caused by a thin layer of sticky bacteria, called plaque, which constantly accumulates on the teeth.
Gum disease affects the gums, bone and ligaments that support your teeth. These structures are the foundations which enable you to keep your teeth for life, but they can be damaged by bacterial infection.
It can affect one tooth or many and the first symptoms often go unnoticed. If not treated it can lead to bad breath, pain and even tooth loss. In fact, gum disease is the biggest cause of tooth loss among adults in the UK.
We recommend seeing us regularly so that we can check for signs of gum disease, and advise you on how to avoid it or bring it under control.
